“Red Ball” Brussels sprouts are a unique variety known for their deep reddish-purple colour, which intesifies with colder weather. They are smaller than standard green Brussels sprouts, but offer a slightly sweeter and nuttier flavor. The vibrant color persists even when cooked, making them a visually appealing and flavorful addition to meals. 

Cultivation; Sow December to February. Sow 4 seeds 1cm deep in a thumb sized depression, 60cm apart. Cover the seeds with fine compost. Gradually thin the plants to select the best. In gardens that have mild Winters and no frosts or are warm, it is likely that brussel sprouts will be affected by aphids, in these situations the sprouts will be spoilt and inedible whenever they are grown, so it may not be possible to grow this particular vegetable successfully.
