ORGANICALLY GROWN SEEDS
These are seeds produced from plants grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. All seeds labeled as organically grown have been produced by us on our farm with all stages of growth and development overseen. We grow using permaculture principles and although we are not certified, all growing areas are treated with care and kindness with what is best for the plants, soil and environment.
We take a soil first approach, source organic fertilisers, make our own compost and source additional compost that is certified organic and use our beloved worm farm systems in our growing cycles. We do our utmost best to provide our seeds with the best natural space to grow. But we are not perfect and to be transparent we need to inform that at times do need to use a little weed spray around the farm in problem areas, but it never goes near our growing soil.
OPEN POLLINATED & HEIRLOOM SELECTED VARIETIES
These seeds produce true to type, you can save them, provided pollination rules are followed and they will produce plants identical to their parents. Tassie Seeds have trialed and selected the best Open Pollinated and Heirloom varieties for the home gardener for flavour, vigour and adaptation to growing in your region.
HYBRID F1 SEEDS
These are seeds that have been crossed to produce uniform plants with one or more improved characteristics. Tassie Seeds have trialed many F1 vegetable varieties and selected the best performers, and best flavour for the home or market gardener in your region.
We choose to add a few hybrids to our offerings to give our customers choice in what they would like to grow. Open pollinated heirlooms are what we grow ourselves but hybrids also have their place in the home and market gardens. They offer uniformity, storage, and different flavour and colour profiles. Many of our cut flower varieties are hybrids and are bred for increase vase life, stronger stems and better colour and form.
TREATED/PELLETISED SEEDS
Some of our outsourced specialty seeds are treated with a fungicide. This is to comply with strict quarantine laws in Tasmania and to protect our export markets. We respect the laws and abide by them; in return we offer you the seeds of high germination. Pelletised seeds help protect and handling efficiency of small seeds. These seeds are meant for sowing only.
